Lieutenant General (Retd.) Moin Uddin Haider joined the Pakistan Army in 1960 and served at various command and staff appointments. He participated in 1965 and 1971 war and saw active combat. He did his Masters in Defence Studies from Royal College of Defence Studies, Seaford House, U.K, and has the distinction of being the first Pakistani to get his thesis published in Seaford House Papers. He retired as Corps Commander Lahore in March 1997, and was appointed Governor of Sindh from March 1997 to June 1999. Later he was appointed as Federal Minister of Interior, Narcotics Control and Capital Administration from November 1999 to November 2002. Presently he is the Chairman Fatimid Foundation which is the largest charity blood transfusion service of Pakistan. He is on the Governing Bodies of several universities and hospitals. He has adopted four government schools for improving their standards in poor areas of the city of Karachi.

Born in January 1952, Air Marshal Raashid Kalim got his early education in Lahore. After doing his FSc from PAF Public School, Sargodha, he joined Pakistan Air Force and graduated from PAF Academy, Risalpur in April 1973. He went on to do Fighter Conversion and Operational Conversion Courses. He initially flew the American F-86 (Sabre) and later all types of Chinese and French fighter aircraft on PAF inventory. Quite early in his flying career, he acquired the prestigious Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) certification, which provided him a rare fillip to become an accomplished fighter pilot with rich experience on Mirages. He had the rare distinction of having been awarded eight star green endorsements on fighter aircraft in the Pakistan Air Force. As he rose in his profession, his leadership skills got further honed, giving him professional distinction. He commanded an elite Fighter Squadron, a Fighter Flying Wing and a Fighter PAF Base. He also commanded PAF Northern Air Command.

In staff jobs, the Air Marshal served as Deputy Director (Operations), Personal Staff Officer to Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) and Director JF-17 Thunder Project at Air Headquarters. At senior staff level, the Air Marshal rendered contributions as Director General (Logistics) at Joint Staff Headquarters; as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence and as Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Personnel). His last responsibility in the PAF was that of Vice Chief of the Air Staff, a capacity that made him 2nd-in-command of the entire Pakistan Air Force. Being at the helm of affairs, he remained closely involved with PAF budgetary allocations and disbursement, apart from handling the ever explosive Media Affairs.

Air Marshal Kalim administrative acumen was specially spurred to excellence during his tenure as Additional Secretary at Ministry of Defence. His areas of responsibilities included a wide variety of assignments like liaison with Military Accountant General Office, coordination of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Defence Committee of the Cabinet and Defence Council meetings; implementation of the decisions taken by National Security Council, ECC, ECNEC and other forums. He had to efficiently coordinate the National Assembly / Senate business pertaining to questions, call attention notices, privilege motions, general motions, resolution, bills and other important issues pertaining to Defence Services of the country.

He remained on deputation to the Air Force of Zimbabwe, where he was vitally instrumental in providing assistance to the fledgling air force of the country. The Air Officer had the opportunity of flying various fighter and training aircraft on the inventory of the air force of Zimbabwe.

Air Marshal Kalim is a former senior PAF air officer with more than 34 years of creditable service, including 14 years in command and senior appointments. He has vast experience of handling, managing and implementing operations, HRM and executive management decisions. He is a strong leader with motivational management strength and reputation for ensuring well trained human resource. He is a result-oriented achiever with excellent track record to move ideas in the right direction. The officer enjoys excellent reputation in civil and military hierarchy of the country, and earns rightful respect, honour and appreciation for his dedicated services and contributions.

The Air Marshal is a keen golfer and a sports lover, a personal trait that was aptly recognized at all levels. During his career, Air Marshal Raashid Kalim was closely involved with sports activities within the PAF as indeed at the national level. As Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Personnel), he was an ex-officio Senior Vice President of Pakistan Squash Federation from April 2003 to April 2006. He was appointed Chef de Mission Pakistan for Asian Games at Doha in 2006, in which capacity he managed about 23 disciplines and headed more than 250 sportsmen and other officials. Similarly, as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he was President Pakistan Ski Federation from April 2006 to July 2007, a responsibility that he discharged with utmost commitment and dedication. . Above all, he was responsible for organizing a number of national and international events.

Air Marshal Raashid Kalim is a graduate of PAF Air War College, Faisal and holds an MSc degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from National Defence University, Islamabad. He is married and has three children. In recognition of his meritorious and exceptionally dedicated services,he was decorated with the coveted awards of Sitara-i-Basalat (Military), Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military). He enjoys traveling to various parts of the globe and pursues sightseeing as his prized pastime.
